Most players do not bet on one match, but combine several bets into one big bet. The English term for this is parlay: in New Zealand there is no real word for it, but below we call them stacked bets. These stacked bets make for a higher win, but in order to get that win, all parts of the bet must be right.
With a stacked bet, the odds are combined and multiplied with each other. So if the player chooses a stacked bet with two outcomes that happen to both have odds of exactly 2.0, he or she wins $ 4 with a bet of $ 1. For two results, that doesn't matter much (the player would have gotten just as much with two separate bets), but a stacked bet with three of these odds already earns the player $ 8. There is usually no limit to the number of bets that can be combined in this way.
To make the most of these stacked bets, there are also special systems. These systems allow players to combine multiple 'parlays'. The system provides a better spread, which increases the chances of higher profits. The most convenient way to explain this is in a table. The table below shows a ‘patent’.
A patent requires three matches. First of all, you bet on each match (3x $1), with which the bettor in this example already has a chance of $ 6 (3 x 2.00 x $ 1). In addition, the player also bets on the ‘treble’, in which he or she correctly predicts all matches. This gives the player a chance to win $ 8 ( 2.00 x 2.00 x 2.00 x $ 1). Finally, he or she also bets on all possible ‘doubles’, i.e. match 1 and 2, Match 2 and 3 and match 1 and 3, with which the player has three times the chance of $ 4 (2.00 x 2.00).
The larger the system, the more the player spreads the risk, but the more bets he or she needs to cover all bets. For the same four-game system (a Yankee), he or she needs $ 11, with the singles no longer covered; the player bets on all doubles, all possible trebles, and the combination of all four games. After the Yankee follow the Canadian ($26), Heinz ($57), Super Heinz ($120) and Goliath ($247) who work according to the same principle with an extra match.
