Rules of Texas Hold'em

The order of the game is the same as in regular poker. You are dealt two cards. This is followed by three cards in the middle (the flop) and a choice where you play through or increase your bet. This moment of choice comes back again after the fourth card (the turn). The last card in the middle is called the river. From all the cards on the table and the two cards in your hand, a five-card hand is made.

To play with it, you need to bet at least $ 1 on the ante. This will deal you two cards. Also, the dealer is dealt two cards (which remain hidden until the end of the game). On the basis of these two cards you decide whether you play or not (bet or fold). Play-through costs 2x the base bet; so if you bet $ 1 on the ante, play-through costs $ 2 extra.

If you fold, you lose the bet on the ante. If you continue, you will see the first three cards in the middle of the table. With these three cards you get a new choice: 'check ‘or’bet'. The check is free and ensures that you also get to see the fourth card on the table. With ' bet’ You bet $ 1 again and your total bet becomes bigger. This bet is automatically placed on the’ turn ' position.

After the fourth card you have a choice where you can increase the total bet again or turn over the last card with ‘check’. After that last card, the two hands (yours and the dealer's) are compared. The player who can make the highest hand out of a total of five cards wins. If the dealer wins, you lose all bets. If you Win as a player, there are two options: you get your ante back and double all other bets or you also double the ante. The latter applies if you have a straight or higher.

Small and big blinds

Once the small and big blinds have been wagered, the player to the left of the big blind bets. This player can see his cards in contrast to the blinds and has three betting options:

  • Fold = fit. The player decides not to play his cards. He / she does not have to show his / her cards. The player does not bet any money, except for his bet on the ante, if any, which each player is obliged to bet before the cards are dealt.
  • Call = lifetime. The player decides to bet the same amount as the player next to him/her: the big blind.
  • Raise = increase. The player increases his / her bet. This increase must be two times higher than the bet amount of the blind.

Ante
In some tournaments there is an ante bet. This means that before Cards are dealt, all players bet a minimum amount.

How to play Texas Hold'em?

You play Texas Hold'em with 52 playing cards. The goal of the game is to form the highest possible card combination. To do this, you can use your two ‘face-up’ cards in combination with the five face-up cards on the table. You can also choose to use only the five cards.

Betting Round 1: the preflop round Step 1

Betting Round 1: the preflop round

This round starts with the distribution of two closed cards, also called hole cards or pocket cards. The cards are dealt Clockwise.

Small and big blind
The two players to the left of the dealer button, the small and big blind, are required to place a bet without looking at their cards. They are known as ‘blind’ because these players cannot see which Cards are being laid face up.

The big blind is twice the size of the small blind. The small blind often starts with a minimum limit, depending on which tournament structure whether or not a cash game is played.
Betting round 2 after the flop Step 2

Betting round 2 after the flop

If you continue playing, you will see the first three cards in the middle of the table, this is called the flop. Before the dealer does this, he puts the top card of the deck without looking away. It will be burnout called.

With the three open cards you see next, you get a new choice: ‘check’ or ‘bet’. If you check, you can continue for free and you will be shown the fourth card. If you choose bet, you bet again and automatically increase your bet.
Round 3 after the turn Step 3

Round 3 after the turn

The check is free and ensures that you also get to see the fourth card on the table. The above bet is placed automatically on the ‘turn card’ position. With this four card, you can try to make a five Card Poker Hand.
Last round of betting after the river Step 4

Last round of betting after the river

After the fourth card you have a final betting round where you can increase the total bet again or with ' check’ the last card, also called the river called, you can turn around. With this river card, you decide what your best poker hand is. After this you can check, bet, call, fold and raise again.
The show-down Step 5

The show-down

Now it's time for the show down. Each player shows their poker hands. The combinations are compared with each other. The player who has placed a raise or a bet in the last round may show his/her cards first! Then the players to the left of the dealer show their best combinations. The player who has the best hand wins the pot. Has a tie been found? Then the pot is divided. This is called the split pot.
Get paid Step 6

Get paid

Did you win? Beautiful! You can have your winnings paid out by going to the cashier and requesting your payout. Within a few working days, the won amount will be in your account.

The value of poker hands

In total, there are ten different values of poker hands. Below are all values in order from low to high. Texas Hold'em is all about having a higher hand than the dealer. Apart from the values of a hand, the value between hands with the same value can also differ.

High Card

If no real combinations are possible, the highest card is looked at.
The ace is the highest possible card.

Few

A pair consists of two cards of the same value.
A pair of Aces is the highest possible combination within this value.

Two pairs

A combination of four cards with two pairs.
Here, too, a pair with a higher value beats a pair with a lower value.

Three of a Kind

Three cards of the same value.
The highest possible combination here is three aces.

Straight

A series of five cards with different values.
This series can start with the ace (followed by the 2, 3, 4 and 5) or end with an ace (preceded by 10, J, Q and K). This is the minimum hand in many virtual versions to double the ante.

Flush

Five cards with the same symbol of random values.
If both dealer and player have a flush, the hand that has the highest value in the correct symbol wins.

Full House

Full House is a combination of a Three of a Kind and a couple.
If several players have a Full House, the highest combination of three or two applies.

Four of a Kind

Four cards of the same value.
The last card can also be decisive here, if the combination of the five cards in the middle comes.

Straight Flush

Combination of a Straight and a Flush, so five cards with a consecutive value with all the same symbol.

Royal Flush

A Straight Flush of 10, J, Q, K and A with the same symbol.
This combination gives a jackpot in many poker games (including those of Felt Gaming).

Best combinations

Remember that the goal is to get the highest combination of five playing cards. If both the player and the dealer have the same two pairs (because they are in the middle), the fifth card is the highest card you have been dealt.

Example:
You have the cards: ♦10 ♠6
The dealer has the cards: ♦Q ♦6
The five cards on the table (flop, turn and river) are: ♥K ♦K ♥J ♦J ♠8

Because there are no more options besides the two pairs on the table, you have the same highest poker combination as the dealer: two pairs. Your highest five cards are: ♥K ♦K ♥J ♦J ♦10, while the dealer has ♥K ♦K ♥J ♦J ♦Q as five highest cards. If the dealer has the highest fifth card, the dealer wins.

Bonuses in Texas Hold'em

There are two possible bonuses in Texas Hold'em. The exact bonuses may vary by version. In the version of Felt Gaming you play with the Texas Bonus and the jackpot. The Texas Bonus gives you a bonus for the first two cards you get. If you bet on this, you will earn 3x your bet for a pair of 2s to 10s and up to a maximum of 1000x your bet if both the player and the dealer have two aces.

The bet for the bonus is up to $ 250, as opposed to the regular maximum bet of $ 100. With the jackpot, you have a chance to win extra chips with a high hand. This allows you to win from 3 of a Kind (5x your bet), while earning the progressive jackpot of at least $ 50,000 with a Royal Flush. The bet for the jackpot is always $ 1.

10 ways to win Texas Hold'em

Although most people know Texas Hold'em as a poker game with friends, many casinos also offer a version where you play against the dealer. You still try to get the five highest cards from the cards on the table and the two cards you are dealt, but play against a dealer. Bluff is therefore not part of this version, but you can still bet more or less based on how good Your Cards are. Below you will find ten tips with which you can increase the chance of winning.

1. Don't play with every hand you get
As in the classic version of Texas Hold'em poker, it is important to play only with a good hand. The difference is that in this casino version you have already wagered; so you will lose a small bet if you decide not to play. Nevertheless, the ' folding’ in the casino version is just as important as in the classic variant against other players. Only by leaving bad cards on the left will you get close to the RTP of 99.47%.

2. Make the most of good cards
The other way around is that you have to make sure that you get the most out of good cards. There are a total of three times to increase your bet, two of which are extra bets. These bets are doubled on a win. So if you have a good chance of winning, you can maximize it. If you do not increase the bet, you will win a maximum of 3x your bet. With the highest possible bet, you get 5x your bet back for a win.

3. Choose a version with a high RTP
There are different versions of Texas Hold'em poker available, under all sorts of different names. There are also live versions and virtual versions, where the RTP can always differ.

4. Do not bet on bonus bets
The bonus bets give you the chance of the highest winnings, but your RTP plummets from it. In the virtual version of Felt Gaming, in the regular game you have an RTP between 97.96% and 99.47%, while the jackpot gives an RTP of 78%. For the bonus bet, you get an RTP of 91.46%. For the big wins, these bets are attractive, but for the highest chance of winning, you only play the regular game.

5. Stick to the ideal strategy
Black jack is the casino game that is known for the perfect strategy, but poker also has an ideal strategy. Especially with Texas Hold'em that you only play against the dealer, the possibilities are quite clear. Unlike a poker game against several players, with one opponent you can reasonably estimate how your chances of winning are. This allows you to determine in advance which cards you will and will not play.

6. Bet lower than usual
Many players have a regular bet that they use. For example, if you are used to playing from slots , you undoubtedly have a standard bet. Because there are three betting options in Texas Hold'em, it is convenient to start with a lower bet and vary from there. This allows you to bet heavily on good cards and spread your risks more with other cards.

7. Use a betting system
Because you usually double or lose your bet in Texas Hold'em, the game is a good candidate for a betting system. Certainly the Paroli strategy or the Labouchère system works very well for Texas Hold'em, because you always double your winnings (depending on the strategy you use). If you use a betting system well, it can ensure greater profits.

8. Keep an eye on your budget
It may sound bland, but to win with Texas Hold'em you must first make sure you don't lose. So make sure you have a budget and stick to it. In the casino, you win one day and lose the next. By sticking to a pre-set budget, you ensure that your profits indeed remain profits and that your losses are limited.

9. Be careful not to compensate
A losing player is worth gold to the casino. Quite logical, you might think, but it's not just about the (small) losses you incur in between. It is mainly the psychology that gets away with a losing player. Players become more aggressive in their game, start betting on worse hands and increase their bets to compensate for losses. This will ensure that you turn a small series of losses into a much larger loss. Keep a cool head and remember that losses and profits are both part of playing in a casino.

10. Analyze your game
The beauty of online casinos is that you can always see how you played. After a session, walk past your hands to see exactly where your weaknesses lie. The first time you do this may take a while, but this is the fastest way to learn from your mistakes and not make those mistakes next time.

Conclusion

Texas Hold'em is next to the poker games Caribbean Stud Poker and Captain Jack or Better one of our favorite poker games. It is not only a popular poker variant when playing against friends, but also in the casino against the dealer. Many online casinos have a virtual version of Texas Hold'em, where you sometimes also have a chance to win bonuses and a jackpot, as in the version of Felt Gaming. A really high hand here gives you a chance to win the progressive jackpot of at least $ 50,000.

Frequently asked questions about Texas Hold'em

Often you play Texas Hold'em with 8 to 10 players. When you play live poker online, you are competing against the dealer. There are also variants where you can compete against your fellow players. You don't see this in the live versions.
The RTP for the regular game of Texas Hold'em poker is between 97.96% and 99.47%. The bonus in the version of Felt Gaming has an RTP of 91.09% and with the deposit for the jackpot you have an RTP of 78%.
In the regular game, the maximum win is 2x your bet. You win separately with the ante (on a Straight or higher), the flop, turn and river. These last three bets are always doubled. The maximum bet of $ 100 on the ante gives you the chance of $ 1,000 if you win with a high hand. The bonus allows you to win up to 1,000 x your bet (of up to $ 250) and the progressive jackpot starts at $ 50,000.
That varies by version. For the version of Felt Gaming there is a separate jackpot bet and a bonus bet. The bonus bet rewards you for two good cards in your hand, while you win (part of) the jackpot if you have a high outcome.
Yes, because Texas Hold'em is a virtual version, you can try the game with Play Money. This obviously does not win you any real money.
